The following workshops are facilitated by our registered clinicians and are available for parents, caregivers, and educators. They can be customized according to the training needs of the group and offered as half day (i.e. 2-3 hours) or full day (i.e. 6-7 hours) workshops.
Understanding Childhood Anxiety
The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with an understanding of what anxiety is, the impact of anxiety on daily functioning, and strategies for supporting a child living with anxiety. At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify different anxiety disorders
- Identify two evidence-based treatments for anxiety
- Have some practical strategies for supporting children living with anxiety
Self-Regulation in Children
The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with an understanding of self-regulation, how to work with a child who has difficulties self-regulating and guidance on how to help a child develop their self-regulation skills. At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify the building blocks necessary for developing self-regulation
- Understand the parent/caregiver/educator role in supporting the development of self-regulation skills in children
- Have some practical strategies that can be incorporated into home and classroom environments to help children with self-regulation
Parenting for Our Children's Mental Health: Insights from a Brain-Based Parenting Approach.
The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with an understanding of how to nurture children’s developing minds, how children’s misbehaviour is connected to their brain development, and how to respond to misbehaviour effectively in order to foster children’s growth. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand that connection between brain areas and their development and children’s misbehaviour
- Identify skills caregivers can use to regulate their own responses to children’s misbehaviour
- Identify strategies to help children regulate their emotions and support their ongoing development
Managing Challenging Behaviour
The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with a lens in which to view challenging behaviour, and how to work with a child presenting with challenging behaviour. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand the function of behaviour
- Use assessment information in planning interventions
- Have some practical strategies for behaviour change
